TOUR DETAILS:

This 8-day fully supported cycling holiday explores lesser-known parts of the beautiful Turkish Aegean coastline by a network of easy to navigate country lanes and scenic coast roads. It’s the perfect mix of relaxing, family-friendly cycle touring with the option to enjoy plenty of sights along the way. However, like anywhere along the Turkish coast, there are enough hills to challenge the fitter riders, though you may always choose to take a ride in the support vehicle along those sections. Alternatively, just take it easy, swim and enjoy the scenery. You will stay in family-run boutique hotels throughout, carefully chosen for their personal approach and dedication to quality. This tour is relatively easy going with no big hills and an average daily distance of just 40km, using less travelled roads that link olive groves with meandering, relatively flat seaside areas and exquisite coastal peninsulas.

This tour is suitable for cyclists and families of all abilities, and doesn’t need any special equipment or preparation, but we recommend a good basic fitness, ideally with some cycling preparation to get the most out of the tour. Self guided options tours let you explore Turkey by bike at your own speed, leaving plenty of time for sightseeing, time on the beach, or lazy mornings by the hotel pool… A full route map, tour itinerary and GPS files will be supplied, so navigation is easy too! Shorter or longer tours are also available, and you can personalise your tour, adding ‘rest days’ or extra time in the most beautiful places…

TOUR OPTIONS:

This tour was previously known as “Aegean Luxury Self-Guided Road Biking”. Now we have added guided and fully supported self-guided options that let you choose a tour format that suits you best. Choose from:

1: Guided Group Departures
By riding with one of our professional guides you will not only learn so much about the places you ride through, but enjoy the company and companionship that social cycling provides. These tours run on fixed dates throughout the year and are open to single riders willing to share a twin room with no single supplement. All guides speak English fluently and have extensive cycling experience in the region. These tours include all meals at excellent and well-chosen restaurants. The group size is between 6 and 12 although smaller groups and bespoke guided tours are available on request.

2: Fully Supported Self-Guided
This option puts one of our professional biking guides in the driving seat of your support vehicle. It’s the best way to enjoy the support and assistance that a fully guided tour provides but gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace and make your own choices. Not only will your baggage be transported from hotel to hotel but you will enjoy full technical support and route assistance at every stage- just like having a driver and a guide in one. This option includes evening meals but lunches are extra. Please ask for prices for groups larger than 2 Pax as the quoted rate is based on 2 people sharing a support car and driver / guide and larger parties will always cost less. Dates tailored to your preference and departures are available throughout the year.

3: Self-Guided
For those who prefer the freedom and value that self-guided tours offer, this is the best option. Your baggage will be transported from hotel to hotel, and you will still have a support car and driver following you (out of sight) along the route. But with this option your driver may not speak much English, and certainly won’t have the skills or knowledge of an expert guide. These tours are bed and breakfast only, leaving you free to make your own meal arrangements. We can add a half board supplement if you prefer, and all hotels are able to produce excellent meals. Please ask for prices larger than 2 Pax as the quoted rate is based on 2 people sharing a support car and driver. Dates tailored to your preference and departures are available throughout the year.

PRACTICAL DETAILS:

The Aegean coast is substantially less developed than the Mediterranean and the absence of a major coastal highway, combined with a maritime geography of wooded peninsulas, inlets and islands and a blissful climate makes this a perfectly idyllic and intriguing area. This tour stays mostly nearby the coast, and follows a route without too many hills. However, please be aware that many of the places along the route are popular with Turkish holiday makers so roads can become a little busy during peak season of July and August.

The weather is generally fine, beaches are superb, roads are good, and the quality of restaurants and accommodation excellent. The tour is possible at any time of the year but best between April and June and September and November to avoid the summer heat. Please also be aware that in the off season (October to April), this region is somewhat deserted, and whilst that makes the cycling even more pleasant it can mean that restaurants may be closed, and some places may feel a little deserted.

Fly to Izmir, either direct or taking advantage of a stopover in Istanbul for 2-4 days either on the outward or return leg.

  1. Hi there, are you guys still up and running? A friend and I are interested in doing a couple of cycling tours with you later this month (Oct 2017), if you are still up and in operation. The first would be from Izmir along the Aegean for a bit. The second would be around Cappadocia. Possibly looking at a self-guided option. Cheers, Kylie

    • Hi Kylie, Thanks for your message. Yes we are very much still up and running! Both tours you suggest make sense and are possible. Let’s chat over email to get some ideas together. Check your Spam folder in case you don’t receive anything. Kind regards, Jon

  2. Please can you let us know the price of the luxury self guided Aegean bike tour for 2 people somewhere between the 20 June and 10 July

  3. I like the sounds of self guided Aegean tour, looking for march – Aprill. Probally cheapest to fly into instanbul. Could you give me a rough price for 3 adults with bike rental. The tour sounds great, I assume transport of luggage is included, if others want a group we could also ride with others. Also what’s best way to get to start of tour. As far as mileage, 70-80 k should be fine. Can you arrange travel from Istanbul? Thanks James DeBay

  4. Could you send me the price and options for the self guided tour, for the Aegean coast ride. we would be looking at finishing no later than the 2nd October to be in Istanbul by 3rd morning. Thanks. Sue

    • Hi Sue, many thanks for getting in touch. I’ll send you an email with the tour options and details right away! Best regards, Jon

I have two Canadians clients out of Egypt that are interested in the Agean coast packge mid-end Feburary. Before They arrive in Turkey, they will be in Egypt scuba diving . Im trying to figure out how to connect them to your starting point with the flights. Do I fly them to Izmir?. And will you pick them up at the airport, If you can give me the exact details and pricing, I can forward this information to my clients… I am very interested to open an account with your company as well.
