Introduction:

The area around Gothenburg on Sweden’s West Coast is a singletrack mountain biker’s paradise. Gothenburg itself is slowly gaining cult status as a trail destination due to the forest fun-park of Änggårdsbergen, where hundreds of KM of natural, smile-wrenching freeride and enduro tracks are just a stone’s throw from the city. But what makes this part of Sweden so special is how easy it is to get into the true “wilderness. 30 minutes bike from a down town hotel and you can find yourself on world class forest trails with rock gardens, root sections and boardwalk to test the best technical riders.

TOUR DETAILS:

Our tour focuses on the forest singletrack but also heads north for a 2 day excursion to Sweden’s largest lake (Vanern) and the incredible pink granite slab landscape of Ramsvik on the wild West Coast. Here you can ride over wide, grippy expanses of granite right on the ocean itself. Wild, protected, and unlike anywhere on earth, you can hone your trail skills during the day and relax in a Swedish sauna beside the jetty in the evening, looking out to the sunset with a good beer or schnapps in hand. Mix in a wonderful taste of Swedish food culture, authentic boutique hotels and forest chalets, a good smattering of historical interest and the friendliest, most welcoming and beautiful people in the world, and you have an unrivalled trail tour that’s more affordable and much better value than you might think….

Biking is mostly all on singletracks and is overall physically and technically a little easier than our Cappadocia and Morocco tours. That said, there are hard, technical passages, rock obstacles and steep, slippery drops and ideally you will want a good full suspension bike. To safely enjoy this trip you should have some singletrack experience and be familiar with riding on slippery trails with roots and rocks. However, the trails on this tour lend themselves to improving riders, and the lack of any big climbs or descents makes it a good choice for “weekend warriors” or for anyone wanting more from a singletrack holiday than just biking alone.

There are a couple of longer rides but in general the distances and physical requirement is modest. We recommend using a full suspension trail, all mountain or enduro bike and our partners in Gothenburg have nearly new Specialized Stumpjumpers available to rent at reasonable prices.
