Engin Hinçer joins the Biking in Turkey Team!

Middle Earth Travel has a new recruit- trail riding expert, professional photographer, and multi-disciplinary outdoor adventurist Engin Hinçer… With more tours than ever taking off in Cappadocia and across the country, we searched long and hard for a dedicated, experienced and knowledgable MTB guide and welcome Engin with open arms.

Fresh from some fairly hardcore trail initiations, Engin reports: “It was my first professional tour in Cappadocia area- riding on some of the most intense and brilliant singletrack trails of my life. I really enjoyed with singletracks in the valleys around Goreme, and everyday was great (although for me the highlight of this tour was Zemi). It was an amazing experience and I’m looking forward to being a regular guide here! You should definitely come and get this experience and fun- you will love it!

Sina in Privateer Magazine

We were thrilled when legendary MTB journalist Seb Rogers came to Cappadocia to write a feature on Sina Solouksaran- mega talented Iranian Biking in Turkey guide, XC racing champion and singletrack pioneer. Privateer is a Journal of Mountainbiking- an exclusive bi-monthly publication made for enthusiasts by enthusiasts and featuring high quality photojournalism that isn’t overrun with adverts. Sina’s story, as an Iranian social refugee, is compelling and a must read. Click here for more info on Privateer magazine. Click the images for more on our Cappadocia Singletrack Tour itinerary!

Stunning 13th Century Frescoes

Incredible rock cut church with some of the finest frescoes to be found anywhere in Cappadocia- one of the highlights of our new road tour… The church in this walled monastery complex is unique as it is believed to present the works of 3 different artists. It also unusually has painted hunting scenes, featuring strangely depicted animals, in an upstairs room, plus a warren like underground city. New Technical Challenge on Cappadocia Singletrack Tour!

This one came out of nowhere… A totally hidden and completely unknown ancient access into one of our favourite canyons. It’s a lot steeper than it looks. You need plenty of speed and bags of confidence. The steps are cut in left and right, as if a giant walked up there when the rock was still molten. Check it out:

350km Charity Ride for MAP and Cycle 4 Gaza!

We’ve just got back from organising a fundraising cycle challenge that took a group of 32 keen cyclists on a 350km circuit of the Sea of Marmara. Starting with a ferry transfer to Bandirma, the route passed over lush green hills between Can and Canakkale before crossing the Dardanelles and continuing to Gallipoli. From there we took a sometimes hilly coast road via Sarkoy to Tekirdag, and then on to Istanbul for a celebratory finish next to the Blue Mosque. It was a tough event, and every single rider gave it their all! Around $60,000 was raised for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians- who will use it in their essential work raising living standards and health conditions for the unfortunate victims of the Gaza situation.

Here are some of our favourite moments from the trip:
The ride begins near Biga:
Climbing up into the hills near Can
A challenging hilly section above Sarkoy
Another very early start at Eceabat on the Dardanelles
The home strait on busy roads into Istanbul!

Working with Cycle 4 Gaza to organise the big ride!

This week Biking in Turkey have been out and about, completing a circuit of the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbul, in preparation for next month’s charity road biking event. The route, particularly sections near Canakkale and Tekirdag / Sarkoy, is absolutely beautiful! The ride, put together by Medical Aid for Palestinians, will cover over 350km in three days- a good challenge for any cyclist. Due to take place between October 24th and 28th, entry to the event is not closed, but you can still join us in Istanbul and ride the last leg if you happen to be in the area.
